Breathe / by Annie Mitchell

I've been eating scraps and bits because I don't want to go to the store. I backed out of 7 appointments with friends over the last week.  I can’t remember the last time I had a proper shower. Letting dishes pile and trash go longer than normal, I’m in a creative trance and I can't be bothered with any universe outside of mine.

You’ve heard of being in the zone. This is what my zone looks (and smells?) like. If you know, you know. These don’t come around often. Everything has to be just so. Your body, your mind, your environment and the people you let into your orbit during the spin.

Notice how each particle moves.
Notice how the stars vanish as the sun comes up, and how all streams flow toward the ocean.
— Rumi

If you’ve spent any time with me you’ve heard my rant against capitalism. Artists are the R&D department of humanity and in America, Artists are not allowed to be Artists without being severely punished. The majority of us are forced to split our attention between our artistic pursuits and jobs that actually pay because we are not valued as contributors in a capitalist model. And if you’re an Artist yourself, you know that we need to live it and be given time and solitude to truly break new ground. I worry a lot about our future under this regime. Especially now..with the environmental and political issues we are facing.

No solutions here. Just observations and the product of my creative trance. Breathe. And good luck out there.
